Do we trust the green party?

April 26th, 2010 by Dr Green No comments »

Do we trust the green party? with the coming elections as usual my mind turns to legalising/de-criminalising the use of cannabis.
Taken from the Green Party Manifesto

Take the £4bn a year illicit trade in cannabis away from criminal street gangs, by decriminalising its possession, sale and production, and by introducing a properly regulated trade with clear age limits.

This would certainly free up the law, judicial and prison system making for savings to the tax payer? and the tax revenue generated would be most beneficial to the NHS or Education authorities.

Ultimately it will only happen if we as users of cannabis collectively make it happen, here we clearly have a political party willing to let it happen so why not help them to help us and make it happen. Once established with tax revenue rolling in it would be hard for any following party to effect a “u turn” on the new legislation, much the same as alcohol and tobacco as the loss of revenues for the treasury would be huge.

Weed contamination some real evidence.

April 25th, 2010 by UKCIA No comments »

Prohibition is harm maximisation of a sort not limited to the problems of gangland violence, it adds the sort of dangers only an unregulated and uncontrolled trade under the constant threat of disruption can produce; that of contamination.

It almost seems another world now, but in days gone by one of the things that could always be said about cannabis was that being a natural product, it didn’t suffer from the problems of contamination common to white powder chemical drugs. How things have changed over the past decade and a half.

Perfect weed for UK guerrilla growers

Kiwi Seeds Kiwi 2 Pounder

kiwi-2-pounder

Flowering time: 10 weeks

Height: 100-200 cm

Yield: 500 g + per metre sq

THC content: Medium

Medical Effect: Sativa High

Genetics: Sativa 75% Indica 25%

This strain was originally bred outdoors in New Zealand and has become a legend amongst the locals in the north, where an average plant in a good season could top the scales at more than 1 kilo of quality bud!  Add to this  vigorous growth, good mould resistance, citrus aroma and a great sativa taste and you have the perfect outdoor cropper. With a little bending and or topping the 2 pounder will do equally well if not better indoors. Dense crystal formation and a fruity smell to die for make this cannabis variety perfect for outdoor growing in the UK.

Illegal drugs do not exist

March 11th, 2010 by UKCIA No comments »

Way back in the early 90’s there were several attempts to prove that cannabis couldn’t actually be illegal, that the law was not only “immoral in principal and unworkable in practice” as the famous 1967 petition in the Times put it but was actually in and of itself illegal. A book was even published by “The Family Council on drug awareness (FCDA)” entitled “The Report” which set out a legal argument which was claimed to be a defence against a criminal charge bought under the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA).The FCDA site explains:

Cannabis is officially exempted from all legislation, regulation or control founded on ‘harm’ criteria. All private cultivation, trade, possession and use are vindicated. Based on the research-established esoteric Empirical Evidence, THE REPORT is an authoritative insight into the real, but concealed, illegal reason behind Prohibition: ulterior money-motive.

This was taken up by several poor souls who went like lambs to the slaughter, defending themselves with all the confidence of sleepwalkers.

There have been several other attempts to prove the illegality of making cannabis illegal over the years, all of which have got nowhere at best, or at worst resulted in prison terms.  The whole approach had become an example of the definition of stupidity – the idea that if something didn’t work, all you have to do is to keep trying and eventually it will.

The intention to cause harm

February 26th, 2010 by UKCIA No comments »

Fergus EwingFergus Ewing SNP MSP

The war on drugs came up with another daft idea this week, from Scotland this time. The problem is the failure of the drug war to keep pace with the never ending succession of new drugs which have to be made illegal before they can be banned or, as the government would have it, “controlled”.

Storing weed seeds sustained viability

February 24th, 2010 by Dr Green No comments »

Proper storage maintains seed viability and prevents deterioration or rot and as our seeds and their genetics are valuable we would not want this to happen so proper storage is essential.

Preparation of seeds that you have grown for yourself is relatively simple first remove any debris from your seeds by sieving and removing the larger bits by hand. now they will need to be left in a dry dark atmosphere for a week or two to dry out a bit, a marked paper bag is good for this as it will let air circulate and let any unnecessary moisture escape. Shop bought seeds should already be dry enough to put straight into storage but there is no harm in drying them for a week or so just to be sure and remember to remove any plastic bags they may have been packaged in.

Now to keep your weed seeds viable for as long as possible they should be stored in a dry, dark, cool place with an even temperature, preferably in marked paper envelopes that can be placed inside an airtight container. Marijuana seeds can be kept viable for many years by storing them under the correct conditions, sealed Tupperware containers stored on the lower shelves of a refrigerator are ideal, modern frost free refrigerators have a very dry atmosphere so be sure the containers are sealed tightly or your seeds could over time dry out completely.

To keep seeds from absorbing any moisture that may form inside your container while in storage, place a small sachet of silica gel inside the container you are using. These can be obtained from many sources but by far the best way is to recycle them from any electrical equipment you or a friend, family member have recently purchased (their the small white sachets in the box).

Now you can rest easy as your valued genetics are safe, sound and will remain viable for many years to come.

Royal Queen Seeds Royal Automatic

Royal Automatic feminised seeds

royal-automatic-bud

Flowering time: 8-9 weeks from seed

Height: 60-90 cm

Yield: 300-400g + per metre sq

THC content: 12-14%

Medical Effect: Clear relaxing high

Genetics: Various crosses

A very nice plant for the novice grower from Royal Queen Seeds, branching well from every inter-node and producing firm sticky buds makes it ideal for sog setups. Should start to flower around two weeks after germination or 4-5 nodes in height. A rapid stretch around week 3 just after the onset of flowers soon settles down to produce a fine plant with dense sticky colas that eventually have a delicate fruity aroma. A worthy addition to any seed collection.

The art of successful seed germination

February 18th, 2010 by Dr Green No comments »

So you have your seeds and you are ready to germinate them, but what method is best? Firstly i will say that in the natural world plant seeds arrive at ground level by many different methods, they can drift on the wind like dandelion seeds, be eaten by animals and pass through their digestive system to emerge in an obvious pile of ready made fertiliser! or simply fall from the flower and land on the ground directly below the parent plant.

All the info you would normally read on Internet forums and alike would suggest you to place your seeds in a damp paper towel on a saucer and place them some where dark and warm until they crack and produce a tap root. This is ok but it is flawed in its method as you now have to transplant your newly germinated seed to your rooting medium, by doing this you risk damaging the tap root which at this stage in its life is extremely tender, remember seeds never naturally fall on damp tissue!

You will need from your local hydro store some Rockwool plugs, these are about 30mm-1 inch square  cubes or cylinders,  a shallow tray to place your plugs on to, an opaque polythene bag large enough to place your tray into or a propagator lid,  some small pieces of black polythene, a small water tight container, 1 half bucket of water and of  course your seeds. Please fill your bucket the day before and let it stand overnight before use, this is to allow any trapped chlorine gas escape.

First take the small container and half fill it with water from your bucket, now place your seeds in the container of water and let the seeds soak for 24 hours in a warm dark place, this allows the seeds to imbibe themselves (take water on board) and thus begin the germination process. After 24 hours you may notice that the seeds have cracked and areweed seeds soaked for 24 hours showing a thin white line along one edge, this is because the seed has swollen where it has taken water in and is perfectly natural. If there is no crack don’t worry this just indicates that the seed has not taken on as much water as those that have cracked. This is the first stage of the seeds development and you can now safely transplant it to your Rockwool plug with no fear of damage. It is worth noting at this point if you intend to grow more than 1 variety you will need to use a separate container for each strain and label them accordingly to avoid any identification issues at a later date.

To prepair your plugs it is essential that they are soaked in water before you insert a seed into them, so place the required number of plugs into the bucket and allow them to soak for 10 minuets or so. Now place them onto your tray and with a Biro lid or similar make a small hole 5mm deep in the tops of the plugs and insert 1 seed per plug, at this stage you may want to place your tray in its final position in your green house or grow room. Next fill the tray with water from the bucket to approximately 10mm in depth and take the small pieces of black polythene and cover each seed individually this stops most of the light from reaching the seed. You should also label each plug for identification, I usually use a CD marker on a small square of plastic cut from a 4 litre milk bottle and pin it to the plug. Now place the propagator lid or clear polythene bag carefully over the tray and let mother nature do her thing! If growing indoors i suggest turning on your grow lamp and positioning it 500mm above your tray, this will raise the temperature and help maintain the RH (relative humidity) level inside the germination unit.

When your seeds start to germinate proper they will first put down a tap root followed by the emergence of it’s first two leaves (cotyledon leaves) which will start to lift the black polythene from the surface of the plug, it is at this stage advisable to remove the black polythene to allow light onto the emerging seedling and it is now possible to start lowering your light source to avoid stem stretch. We will leave the seedlings inside what is now a propagator until they have developed their first or second set of true leaves (the serrated ones) and are showing showing signs of root growth out of the plug. It would also be wise to remove the remaining water from the bottom of the tray and replace it with a very weak hydroponic nutrient growth solution.

Weed Seed Fact: a seed contains enough nutrition to grow to its first true leaf set.
